What is Grow with Gompers?

A joint initiative of the North Mayfair Improvement Association and the Gompers Park Advisory Council.

We benefit from the full support of

The Chicago Park District
North Mayfair community families and businesses
Alderman Margaret Laurino, 39th Ward
State Representative John D’Amico, 15th District
 Congressman Mike Quigley, 5th District

Why build a new playground?
 The existing playground is...

Over 16 years old, with some equipment dating much older

Deteriorating

 Unsafe

Out-dated
Plagued by worn out, disintegrating materials, unstable structures, rusty metal, and head entrapment hazards.
All issues are documented in a study by the Injury Free Coalition for Kids at Children’s Memorial Hospital.
Under-utilized due to its limited selection of equipment,
play areas that present many  dangers for young ones and  fail to  challenge older children and a disfunctional layout that leave a large amount of the playground unused.

Data from park events, programs, and more shows Gompers Park is a favorite destination for Chicagoans, who enjoy its wide range of facilities, programs, and natural areas all year round.

This unique, urban resource offers a pool, tennis courts, lagoon, riverfront, trails, sledding hill, camps, classes, and more.

Gompers Park requires a new playground to meet the needs of its great population of patrons.

What could a new playground do?
Attract and engage
all the families served by Gompers Park.
Create connections across generations and diverse cultures.Weclome disabled and senior citizens by providing easily accessible rubberized ground cover, comfortable shaded seating, and game tables for intergeneration activities.

How can you help Grow with Gompers?

In order for our playground to be considered for renovation by the Chicago Park District, our committee must reach substantial fundraising goals and work hard to make sure our park is a priority.  With the help of all our partners, including you, we can make it happen!

In addition to being a great park, Gompers is a valuable resource that attracts new residents to our neighborhood, customers to local businesses, and improves our overall standard of living here in North Mayfair and the city beyond!
